Before I Die

January 21, 2011

A friend of mine beered me a copy of Dane Sherwood's "2,001 Things to Do Before You Die" back in 2004 and I've been slowly checking things off in it ever since.

In the following video web log post, in addition to recapping some of the more memorable activities fostered by Mr. Sherwood's book, I added a couple new check marks to my pre-death 'to-do' list.

Have joy.

  4. Caryn,

I actually did it for a journalism class in college. Some classmates and I waited outside while the "Today Show" was taping and when she and Matt Lauer came outside during a commercial, I asked if I could interview her and she agreed.

The whole video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca-KCAcgy4Y

    Cheers!

  5. I think the book sounds like a great read though I'm imagining I'll only ever get like 2% or something done if I set the challenge. Have you sat down to count how many things you've checked off yet?

  6. Corey,

    I have. It's fun: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_SJMkLomBWn0/S-I5X8HGOmI/AAAAAAAABAk/BL7dcU5vuo8/s1600/_MG_2.jpg

Also, canyoning. Like cliffjumping, but with waterfalls. Photos & video here: http://www.mommybyday.com/2010/05/adrenaline-rush.html

If you're ever in my neighbourhood in the summer, I'd be more than happy to take you jumping. =)

  7. M,

Here's the version of "2,001 Things..." that I have if you're interested in picking up a copy: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/2001-Things-to-Do-Before-You-Die/Dane-Sherwood/e/9780760765272

Although I haven't actually counted all of the things I've done, I do know that I'm gonna need to live quite a bit longer to make a meaningful dent.

  8. Natalie,

If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I will definitely take you up on that offer!

Also, that picture is incredible! How high up are you?

  9. Corey - Thanks! That was 25-ish feet, I think. I've jumped it at a few different water-levels, so it can be anywhere between 20 & 30ft. (It's the Athabasca Falls canyon in Jasper National Park. =)

The best photo is just before I jumped... =) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_SJMkLomBWn0/S-I5FoBA2iI/AAAAAAAABAc/o--RmLqgu2M/s1600/_MG_2247.jpg

  10. You need to do cliff jumping for sure!! I did it a few years back from 30 or 40 feet up and it was a HUGE rush!

  11. Natalie,

My family went rafting on spring break when I was in high school and I tried to impress my fellow rafters by doing a front flip off of a jump rock 30 feet above the water. Needless to say, I over-rotated and the rafting company got the whole thing on film.

Next time, I'm goin' feet first...

  12. Brian,

Was this in Michigan? If so, put in on our list for next summer! Or better yet, after Kelly's wedding reception!
